Compositions and Arrangements

Written in a friendly D major it begins with larger group phrasing and dynamic contrast. Moving on to an upbeat, articulate, and jovial section, focus moves to hooked bowings and rhythmic triplets that span all strings. Sections throughout provide moments of part independence. This is a great piece to practice multiple musical styles, bowings, dynamic contrast, and overall ensemble. (3:10)

Put the pedal to the metal! Inspired by the myriad of sparks while cutting metal, "The Grindstone" will sharpen the skills of any young string players. Beginning in A Minor with quiet focused energy, then adding a driving beat mixed with a lush middle section, this epic piece will have your students rocking out. Light syncopation, dynamic contrast, and some part independence offer opportunities to work on important aspects of ensemble performance.  (2:50)

This contemporary work for intermediate string orchestra captures the spirit of pushing boundaries and testing limits with the potential to overcome. A fun and hopeful piece, Spirit of Adventure is full of light and energetic syncopation and a wide dynamic range that adds to the overall drama of the piece. With a driving finish, it is a piece your ensemble will love!
